Help! My boobs are getting bigger, what Bra should I be wearing during pregnancy? Whats the best time to get new bras? Are Maternity bras really supportive? Will I be able to breastfeed comfortably in my maternity bra?
Those are questions I hear a LOT from my customers, so I decided to share with you in this blogpost some good tips to ensure that you have the RIGHT bra for you that will support you during pregnancy and beyond!
if you are an active mum to be you may want to continue reading as we go through some great tips to get the best support possible while exercising and just everyday
1: Get fitted by an expert
It is REALLY important that you get fitted when you are getting a new bra whether you are pregnant or not!
Why I hear you say?
Because having the right bra will give you the comfort and support that you need. And it could actually reduce the stretching of breast tissues which could end up with saggy boobs.. and even though aging and gravity take its toll on our boobs we don’t want to increase the chance of happening sooner – right?
Bra fitting is a free service in most specialty stores and even target has this service nowadays.
And remember your comfort and support are really a MUST you deserve feeling great and staying supported as your body changes!
2: Go for comfort above looks on this one
It really amazes me seeing that sometimes the maternity bras are even better looking than a regular bra… which is fabulous because sometimes let’s face it sometimes we don’t like what we see in the mirror when we are pregnant! I know I didn’t all the time, sometimes I even wonder if my husband found me attractive at all. Can you relate?
As women we are used to sometimes going through not so pleasurable things to look attractive – like waxing for example! But when it comes to Bras, well the reality is it MUST be comfortable and supportive no negotiating in that! Luckily most bras I have tried during my pregnancies have looked and felt amazing.. In fact when I stop breastfeeding I’ll continue using them because they are gorgeous.
3: Don’t leave it too late
Even though you may not fully noticed but your breasts are preparing for lactation really early in pregnancy, in fact most changes have occurred by the time you hit the 16 week mark and sometimes ever earlier!
Between 12 and 14 weeks of pregnancy is a good average time to get yourself fitted.
And if at any point you start feeling uncomfortable, restrictive in any way you may need to be re-fitted to ensure that you are having the support and comfort you need.
It is not necessary to buy a bra you will grow into – indeed too big can be as bad as too small
I know I said 3 tips BUT this one is ridiculously important so I can’t leave it out!!
4: Don’t forget the maternity sports bra
We all know how good is getting some form of exercise while we are pregnant, we feel better, we are happier, we are keeping healthy for us and our growing baby.
But all this movement and bouncing can make all your bits jiggle a little bit too much! Making our exercise routine a bit awkward, uncomfortable and sometimes even painful
This is why good maternity fitness gear is essential. A nice pair of capri tights with a 3 way waist band panel is a MUST, a properly fitted top that covers you and keeps you cool and a really supportive bra are also crucial!
